10-digit SMS Long Code is nothing but a mobile number used by aggregators to receive incoming SMS instead of 5-digit short code due to high cost of premium SMS. But the cost of 10-digit SMS code varying from Rs 1000 to Rs 10,000 per month.
Why to pay such a high cost when you can make a proxy server on your smart phone your self.
How?
You need only 3 things to implement such functionality:
1. An Android Phone with WiFi functionality
2. WiFi connectivity at home
3. ZNI’s SMS Long Code app from Android Marketplace
Download the app and install it. No icon or window will be displayed as this is background process and run quietly.
Once you have installed the app than you will require to Register your device with ZNI (obviously its free too). To register you need to send a SMS from the same device on which the app was installed to itself i.e. if, you have a mobile number 980000123123 than you need to compose a SMS on the device and send it to on 980000123123. The content of the SMS would be
REG88ZNI your-email-id
Kindly replace “your-email-id” with your active e-mail ID because you will get an unique device ID, which uniquely identifies your account on your specified e-mail account.
Hard part is done. Now you need to configure an URL/Website where you want to receive your SMS for further processing. For that you need to visit http://cbsserver1.zni.in/longcode.asp
Here it will ask your unique-id which you have received on your email. Copy-pate that ID on the text box given and click on the “Submit Data” button.
A new text-box will open which asks you for the URL and its parameter. Enter the exact URL where you want to receive the SMS.
URL could be anything but two parameters are mandatory i.e.
from=@@from@@&msg=@@msg@@
Please do not forget to add these two parameters on your URL. The variable @@from@@ will be replaced by the SMS sender’s mobile number and variable @@msg@@ will be replaced by the complete message body.
WARNING: Once you installed this app on your mobile handset than you won’t be able to see/read any SMS on your device because this app pushes the SMS content to the specified URL and than deletes that SMS from the device.
